About

The Springfield Good Government Committee (SGGC), is a partnership of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield. It has been in place for more than a decade. The Committee has its own bylaws, a separate governing board and finances from the Chamber and the HBA. The Committee is registered with the Missouri Ethics Commission and reports all donations, expenditures and contributions, etc., as required by law.

The Committee recruits, endorses and supports candidates for Springfield, Missouri, City Council. SGGC has supported candidates with proven track records of community and board service, professional skill sets that include data and budget analysis/fiscal literacy, and an understanding of the fundamentals of local economic growth.

The SGGC governing board has approved a platform that guides decision-making regarding candidates. It encourages supporting candidates that are focused on fiscal accountability and transparency, and who prioritize core responsibilities of government such as:

  • Transportation/infrastructure
  • Reducing costly red tape/bureaucracy
  • Certainty in the planning and zoning process
  • Growing and developing our workforce
  • Strong fiscal governance
  • Creating a strong business climate and spurring private investment – this includes focus on quality-of-life elements such as comprehensive planning for the future, strengthening public safety, investments in outdoor and other amenities proven to attract and retain talent, and more.

Ultimately, candidates are endorsed by the SGGC governing board following a rigorous interview and survey process about their views on a wide range of issues affecting business and the community.

*This can include but is not limited to focus on quality-of-life elements such as comprehensive planning for the future, strengthening public safety, investments in outdoor and other amenities proven to attract and retain talent, etc.
